In a glass-stem thermometer the volumetric change resulting from thermal expansion is interpreted into temperature. In a filled system, the pressure inside a closed thermal system is used to measure temperature. The detected pressure is a function of not only the process temperature at the bulb, but also of other factors that can introduce errors
